"He Was Really Sayin' Somethin'" was the Velvelettes' second record to hit the charts in 1965. The hit version was recorded in December, 1964. This version was recorded earlier and styled closely to the Supremes' successful hit "Where Did Our Love Go" with foot stomps and handclaps. Norman Whitfield would have the group re-record the song in a more upbeat tempo and released that as the single.
