What is melodically driven video game music? It's music that's in a video game where the main point of interest in the story is the melody, and we can look at different genres that actually don't have this to see the point played out, if you will. For example, if we look at stealth games, yeah, you'll hear that there's motifs like in Assassin's Creed, but the motifs are woven in such a way that they don't really draw attention to themselves unless you're looking for them. We can look at shooter games like Call of Duty and PUBG Mobile, where you're going to have a moment of a theme within the music, but it's usually going to be about two-thirds of the way, and it's going to last for maybe 20, maybe 40 seconds. And then the rest of it is going to be this sort of atmospheric thing going on with some drums, some hybrid drum sounds, some synths, maybe some strings, maybe some guitars that are creating this feeling of action and anticipation. If you want to learn more about composing video game music, check out the new book, Composed Legendary Video Game Music, available now on Amazon.
