Modern magnetism is supposed to preserve action and reaction. But when Ampère’s direct force law is replaced by Grassmann’s reformulation, that clear local push-back starts to disappear.
If magnetism is really an interaction between moving charges, that should matter. Because in some configurations, one current element can act on another while the supposed reaction is no longer clearly there at all.
The mathematics becomes cleaner. The geometry becomes easier to manage. But the physical exchange itself becomes harder to see.
This video looks at what changed, why the newer formulation took over, and what may have been lost when the direct interaction picture was left behind.
