Suzi Gage is a PhD student at the University of Bristol looking at the relationship between drug use and #mentalhealth. She writes a #blog called Sifting the Evidence for The Guardian's science blog network. In this video she describes what she gets out of blogging and using #Twitter to communicate her research, and that of others.
Suzi started her blog originally as a means to improve her science writing, as well as a way to comment on articles and news stories she'd read. Twitter isn't good for long consideration of topics but a blog allowed her to go more in depth on some subjects. At first, it took her a long time to write a blog, but with time and practise the process got quicker. Even now though, she finds it invaluable to send it to a colleague for feedback.
Suzi also recommends using Twitter as there is a great community of scientists on there to tap into and get feedback from, as well as it being useful to search for stories to write about.
