WHY did this powerful 7.1 earthquake hit Japan—and why was Kumamoto once again at the center of the destruction?
A major earthquake struck Kumamoto Prefecture on Japan’s southern island of Kyushu, damaging buildings, roads, transportation systems and the historic Kumamoto Castle. One of the most shocking scenes came from AEON Mall Kumamoto, where an explosion and structural collapse followed the earthquake.
