One thing I've been learning recently…

Customer churn rarely starts when the customer leaves.

It typically starts much earlier.

Often at the point of sale.

Churn rate is simple:

How many customers came in…
and how many left?

But the psychology behind churn is where it gets my gears turning.

I have found that most customers don’t leave because of one random bad moment.

They leave because expectations were misaligned.

They thought they were buying one thing.
The experience felt like another thing.
The communication got unclear.
Trust slowly started to fade.

That’s why onboarding matters so much.

The first few moments after someone buys are incredibly important.

They’re asking themselves:

“Did I make the right decision?”

Your job is to answer that quickly.

Not with rah-rah hype (although tempting) but with clarity.

Show them what happens next.
Set expectations.
Give them a quick win.
Make the process feel organized.

A strong onboarding process does more than reduce confusion.

It builds confidence.

And confident customers are much less likely to go looking for a backup plan.

Like I mentoined, I’m still learning this too.

I love to grit my teeth, buckle down, and do more however sometimes retention isn’t even about doing more but simply about making the customer feel less uncertain.

Because when people know where they are, where they’re going, and what to expect…

They tend to stay longer.
