TSMC holds a near-monopoly on the world's most advanced semiconductor nodes — and that gives them unprecedented control over who gets to build next-generation AI chips. With the jump to 3nm driving AI compute demand in late 2025 and early 2026, and Samsung and Intel still meaningfully behind, the foundry landscape has never been more concentrated.

Nvidia moved early, locking up 4nm and 3nm wafer allocations, packaging, and critical upstream materials before competitors could react. But that leaves every other AI chip company scrambling for what's left — and according to TrendForce, meaningful relief at the leading edge isn't expected until early 2027 at the earliest.
