The Belgian Malinois can be incredibly easy to train and incredibly difficult to live with.

That’s exactly why this breed can fool first-time dog owners.

Malinois have a massive appetite for work, drive, and using their mouths. There’s a reason people jokingly call them “Maligators.”

On the training field, that intensity can make them look incredible.

At home, that same dog may be chewing on everything, grabbing at arms, hands, clothes, or whatever else happens to be within reach.

This is a dog that wants something to do.

Constantly.

And that’s where inexperienced ownership can go wrong. Getting a Malinois without understanding that level of drive is like being handed the keys to a Ferrari before you know how to drive it.

The dog isn’t the problem.

The problem is choosing a breed this intense without being prepared for what actually comes with it.
