The Border Collie might be one of the smartest dogs in the world, but that can actually make them harder to live with.
These dogs were built to work.
They’re busy, highly intelligent, and constantly looking for something to do.
If you’re not giving them a real outlet through training, obedience, agility, rally, farm work, or another consistent job, that intelligence can become a challenge very quickly.
And if you’re working 40+ hours a week with very little time left for training or activity, this breed can become frustrating for both you and the dog.
I love watching Border Collies work, but even I wouldn’t own one because I simply don’t have enough time to manage the kind of dog they are.
Being incredibly smart doesn’t automatically make a breed easy.
Sometimes it means they need even more from the person bringing them home.
