On today's adventure, we're heading to some of the more coastal areas in South Louisiana to take a look at a snake that's normally pretty uncommon, but for some reason, these snakes are EVERYWHERE after hurricanes! As always we hope y'all enjoy this video! :D
The Gulf Salt Marsh snake (Nerodia clarkii) is a species of brackish water snake found along the coast of the Gulf of Mexico. These nonvenomous, aquatic snakes are often times confused with venomous water mocassins, and are therefore killed on sight much of the time. While normally an uncommon snake, due to harsh weather conditions causing high winds and flooding, these snakes have been washed out of their natural habitats, and for many people living along the coast, it can be a scary thing to wake up to your yard crawling with these snakes! Rest assured, they are a completely harmless species, and the goal of this video is to help those who have a hard time identifying them, by showing the many different shapes and sizes of marsh snake you might see!
