On today's adventure, we finally catch a snake that I've been searching long and hard for. These snakes are rarely seen, and similar to the rainbow snake, have a very unique lifestyle and diet!

Mud Snakes are a semi aquatic snake species found throughout the south-eastern United States. While not an endangered species, these snakes are rarely seen due to their fossorial and aquatic lifestyle. They tend to spend much of their day in craw-fish or amphiuma burrows, and come out the hunt in the rain or at night. Mud snakes only eat amphiumas, large, eel like salamanders, so they're unique diet means these species are never seen in captivity. While mud snakes hide in the mud, their colors look like polished obsidian on top, and bright ruby red on the bottom, making it a truly gorgeous species to see!
