They were originally brought to Stallings Island to protect goats from coyotes, and while the goats are gone, the donkeys remain.

You can kayak past the island as part of the Serene 18 Paddle Trail and learn about its history, wildlife, and unusual residents along the way. Just remember: you can’t step onto the island without permission.

It’s truly one of the most unexpected adventures around Augusta.

Why are there donkeys living on an island in the Savannah River?Do you know where American White Pelicans summer?Do you know what animal this is?Capuchin monkeys are often compared to 4-year-old children in their problem-solving abilities.Come see us in the Los Angeles area!Would you save a tarantula in trouble? There’s more to skunks than their smell.Lmpry, my apparel brand, donates 100% of the profits from its Animal People collection...This is a bearcat, even though it’s neither a bear nor a cat. This might be one of the weirdest animals I’ve ever gotten to meet.I love teachers. Instructors are also ok.Cute enough to be a pet. Wild enough that it shouldn’t be.
