If you live in Minnesota, North Dakota, Montana, or the Canadian Prairies, you probably do.

One of the largest birds in North America, with wingspans of up to nine feet, they migrate north each spring to breed.

Most people don't think of pelicans as migratory birds. But every year they head north to nest, lay their eggs, and raise their chicks until they're strong enough to make the long journey south before winter arrives.

In just nine to ten weeks, a helpless hatchling grows into a nearly adult-sized bird strong enough to migrate over a thousand miles south with the rest of the flock.
