Apple’s long-rumoured HomePad could be one of the company’s most important new products in years — but I don’t think it’s really about Apple Home.
In this video, I look at the latest HomePad rumours and why I think Apple’s bigger plan could be to create a central device for the entire family, bringing together Siri, Apple Intelligence, FaceTime, calendars, photos, music and, of course, the smart home.
Despite smart lights, cameras and video doorbells becoming increasingly popular, the fully connected smart home is still far from mainstream. The HomePad could change that by giving people a reason to put an Apple screen in the centre of their home without needing to care about smart home technology.
Once it’s there, adding a video doorbell, smart lights, locks, thermostats and other Matter devices suddenly becomes much more useful.
Apple might not need to convince millions of people to build a smart home. It just needs to put the gateway to one in their home.
Could the HomePad finally be the product that takes Apple Home mainstream?
