I saw Across the Spider-Verse and while Sony's Spider-Verse films have proven that animation can be anything and it maximizes potential rather than changing the animation medium. They have no limitations and can showcase a blend of different styles and stories due to the premise of the film. Unfortunately I don't see this changing animation as not every story can take place in an infinite multiverse of possibilities, but it does show that not everything has to have the Pixar look we've come to know over the past few decades. Hopefully these films inspire both major studios and independent animators to try new things and explore what digital animation can really become.
