Ancient Rome is well known for a policy of "bread and circuses", and part of that policy were large spectacles like gladiatorial combat and chariot racing. Chariot racing teams were a major part of Roman culture, especially in the Circus Maximus and at one point it even launches a popular revolt in Constantinople--the Nika Riots. But, who owned the chariot teams? Ws it wealthy individuals? Or were the chariot teams owned by collective groups of individuals?
