One Nation leader Pauline Hanson has made headlines after a National Press Club speech yesterday. So, who actually is Pauline Hanson? It's a name you're probably starting to hear a bit more. Pauline Hanson used to be a fish and chip shop owner in Queensland. In 1997 she decided to flick into politics and started the One Nation party. She became known for some controversial beliefs and pulling stunts that lots of people deem offensive. But while that's attracted a lot of criticism, her supporters appreciate she's not afraid to speak her mind. Lately her party has been gaining more support than ever before from voters who believe they've been let down by the major parties. That's how she ended up at the National Press Club yesterday. It's where popular leaders get to talk about their big ideas and plans and Miss Hanson had some controversial ones. It wasn't just her speech that caused a stir. An unexpected protest banner appeared during her speech that a protest group called "GetUp!" later claimed they were behind. It raised big questions about security and is now being investigated by the Federal Police. But, it's all just the latest in what's shaping up to be growing attention for one of Australia's most controversial party leaders.
PEACE AGREEMENT SIGNED
A peace agreement aimed at ending the war in Iran has officially been signed. The presidents of the US and Iran were due to sign the Memorandum of understanding, or MOU, in Switzerland on Friday, but, it's actually been signed a day early. It includes an immediate and permanent end to fighting on all fronts, an agreement that Iran would not develop nuclear weapons, $424 billion dollars to help Iran rebuild and opening the Strait of Hormuz for 60 days with no tolls. That will allow oil supply to increase and hopefully bring down fuel prices around the world. This isn't the final deal, though, and the US and Iran will have the next 60 days to come up with a more permanent agreement.
SCHOOL FARMERS MARKET
Now we're going to meet Georgia, who's come up with a clever plan to tackle food waste. A while ago Georgia here noticed fruit from her neighbours tree was often left on the ground to go mouldy. She came up with the idea of a farmers market, where students could bring in any extra food they had lying around, and her school loved the idea! Now, it's held every two weeks for the students, staff and families, to bring in their excess food and buy and sell all kinds of produce and treats. Georgia reckons it's pretty sweet her idea took off and hopes to see more kids doing what they can to tackle food waste.
GOAT STUDY
First up, to Switzerland, where these goats are being studied to see whether or not they're good at listening! Researchers did that by hiding behind this wooden plank and calling out to them to see whether or not they respond! Do with that info what you will.
JONATHAN THE TORTOISE
Over now to the Island of Saint Helena. To meet Jonathan, the world's oldest tortoise! He's just been crowned a Guinness World Record ICON and at his big age, I think he deserves it! Definitely unc, but that's unc-conic!
MERLIN THE DUCK
Finally, to Merlin the duck. He's become a bit of a star in Mexico, waddling the streets as the unofficial mascot of the World Cup and sending fans absolutely quackers!
