... especially when it comes to your art.
I used to REALLY struggle with making decisions.
Let me paint you a picture:
You feel a spark of inspiration
Excited, you open your notebook or head to the studio
At first it flows. You record a few layers & pause to take it all in.
At this moment, anything is possible.
Therein lies your problem—your next step could be ANYTHING. With so many directions, how do you choose??
You feel that unsettling wave of decision-overload start to creep in. The initial ease starts feeling heavy.
The resistance makes you feel like you should drop this idea & move to something fresh (I’ve been there).
Trust me, I get that it’s WAY more fun to just follow what feels good.
But I’ve learned time & time again that what will move you forward as a musician won’t always feel comfortable.
By wobbling in your decisions, you will show up wobbly in everything you do.
By not committing to your ideas, you’ll never fully show up in your music—& you’ll be able to feel it. You’ll hear it.
Your improvisations won’t feel fully embodied. Your tracks won’t feel as present as you know they can be. Your music will always feel just a bit flat…
Here’s the thing: There is SO much creative potential within you—chances are the only thing in your way is getting stuck in the decision-making spiral.
My biggest breakthrough was realizing that being decisive is a choice. Plain & simple.
What if you simply decided to become a clear person?
To make decisions with confidence & trust that whatever path you take is the exact one you're meant to be on right now.
You can't make a wrong decision when it comes to creativity.
It’s not about making perfect decisions, it’s just about making them.
The only bad decision is a LACK of decision. Everything else moves you forward & helps you grow.
Look inward more than outward.
Take messy, imperfect action (ie. before you have it all figured out). That’s the best & fastest way to clarity.
