This morning I took you along for chores around the homestead. The turkeys are coming along nicely and should be ready in a few weeks. It’s pear season here, so I’m busy gathering kefir pears and even a few Bartletts that managed to show up this year. I show you how I preserve them and chat about how pears ripen off the tree. The apples? Well, let’s just say they’re still underachievers. We also check in on the bees, pick some clover for tea, and I even risk a few scratches for wild blackberry leaves. Somewhere in there I decide it’s time to make a bunch of quiches for the freezer because the hens have been generous. And of course, I couldn’t help but share a few reflections about living quietly, working with your hands, and trying to tune out the noise of the world. Spoiler alert: I may or may not get Todd to lift me up in the tractor bucket later to reach those last pears.
