Radio 710 WHB was Kansas City's big top 40 station and the #1 most listened to radio station in the market during the 1960s. Here is a 1968 promo that was voiced by longtime WHB Operations Manager Ron Martin (who also hosted the afternoon drive show on the station for many years). This promo is for the station's Operation Radio, a drive to get listeners to send in their used transistor radios so the station could send them off to our fighting men in Vietnam. After Martin left WHB in late 1968 or early 1969, he would eventually go on to become one of the biggest names in Country Music radio in Los Angeles until his death. One of the truly great voices in Kansas City radio history. A WHB sales collateral piece containing a biographical sketch said of Ron Martin, "He always sounds like he just inherited a million bucks." I've always thought that such a description was pretty darn accurate of the GREAT Ron Martin.
