WRDO Dead Beat is a fake call-in radio talk show that was produced as a high school class project for Miss Harms' 4th period Language Arts III class at Center Senior High School. Miss Harms assigned book reports to each of several "teams" in the class. And while most teams presented their book reports as the usual oral book reports, read for the class, we decided to produce this fake radio show and play it for the class. The show was played for the class on November 1, 1968. Produced by Randy "Bob" Brown, (that's me), who plays the role of the talk show host, along with classmates Bill Duckett, Bruce Owings, Rob Lubert and Richard Elliott.
WRDO were the fake call letters dreamed up by George Carlin in a sequel monologue after his famous "Wonderful WINO" schtick. But few remember his monologue that mentions WRDO ("Wonderful Weirdo"). The name "Walt Bored" was a take-off on local WHB Radio talk show host Walt Bodine. And the show's title, "Dead Beat," was a take-off on the title of Walt Bodine's WHB talk show, "Night Beat."
