The corpse run is a game design staple. It’s simple on its surface, but each element of the design of a corpse run can be fine tuned to fit in all kinds of games and situations. From something breezy like Super Mario Odyssey, to a more difficult Soulslike game, all the way to my own personal difficulty brick wall: Silksong, there’s a way to fit a unique style of corpse run into all of these.
Today we’re going over a bunch of different styles of corpse runs in games, and see how series with different tones, difficulty levels, and eras all handle implementing their versions of a corpse run.
