This event explored what being a student mathematician entails how to take it further into a career; bridging the gap between current education and future opportunities.
This talk is by Leena Sodha. Leena is a qualified Pensions Actuary (Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries) with 15 years industry experience now working at the University of Leicester to shape actuarial education and prepare mathematicians and actuaries of the future. It’s a known fact girls are talented mathematicians, yet they only account for 25% of qualified actuaries and the Actuarial Profession has been a difficult one to enter for no good reason. Women are underrepresented and Leena’s challenge is to change perception and demonstrate women can succeed in male dominated mathematical professions! At the University, Leena is responsible for leading the School’s Mathematics and Actuarial Science programmes with a key focus on employability skills. In Leena’s view, it’s all about ‘Bridging the Gap’ between University and Industry!
