You can have whatever you want, with no limits of quantity, season or price: before dying, what would you like to eat? Let us know in the comments!
Is there a harder question than our last taste? Our last palatable pleasure? We often talk about the last images that come to your mind when you’re about to die, your life that is rewinded, the souvenirs that suddenly emerge… What are the foods though that would have marked your life?
A question that numerous death row prisoners had to answer - with of course, in this case, limitations.
Countries have various traditions in this regard. A little glass of rum but no last meal was granted to the condemned in France. In Florida nowadays, the last meal must not exceed 40$. In Louisiana, it is usually lobster and the dinner can be shared with a prison guard or another prisoner. In 2011, Texan prisoner Lawrence Russell Brewer requested two chicken-fried steaks with gravy and sliced onions, a triple-patty bacon cheeseburger, a cheese omelet with ground beef, tomatoes, onions, bell peppers, jalapenos, a bowl of fried okra with ketchup, a pound of barbecue meat with half of a loaf of white bread, a portion of three fajitas, a meat-lover’s pizza, a pint of Blue Bell ice cream, a slab of peanut-butter fudge with crushed peanuts, and three root beers. He ate none of it, claiming he was not hungry. Texas abolished the last meal.
But as hard as the question sounds, people usually get an idea quite quick of what they would like to have last on this earth: being a souvenir of a happy moment, the food that our parents prepared us as kids or when we were sick, they are highly emotional.
More rarely comes this answer of something you’ve never tried because it was too expensive or just because you never had time in your life: who would take the risk to die after a food disappointment?
What would YOU eat at your last meal? Would you have the full starter to dessert? What would you drink and would you share it?
