The mainstream narrative regarding Victorians is often centred around what they got wrong, what put them in danger, and how little they knew. I choose to view people of the past as humans, because in reality, we are much closer to them than we think.
In this video, I wanted to spin the narrative a little bit and shine a light on what the Victorians GOT RIGHT, both related to historical fashion, and also in a more general sense.
While my own beliefs are certainly not those of most Victorians (I say most because I don't know what every single Victorian believed), I can see what information from the 19th century could benefit us now, and which is better to leave in the past and learn from. I do not wish I lived back in Victorian times, even though I get asked this question a lot. I feel that it has never been a better time to be alive, even though there are still numerous issues that face humanity in our present world, and a vast multitude of problems that must be addressed.
But just because I would not want to live during Victorian times, doesn't mean that the Victorian period was inherently awful. There are certain aspects that I believe we can juice wisdom from; wisdom that could be bountiful when applied in a contemporary context. Most of all, I want people to see that historic humans of all backgrounds and all periods of time had their own incredible creations, inventions, innovations, and more, which without we would not be the world we are today.
