Lion Gjoni was found in 2019, trapped in a tiny cage at a restaurant in Kosovo—illegally smuggled and kept in poor conditions. 💔
Though confiscated in 2020, he had to stay in that same cage for two more years due to lack of appropriate facilities. Then in 2022, a fire broke out nearby, adding urgency to his rescue.
We stepped in and moved him to BEAR SANCTUARY Prishtina —a safe but temporary home where he finally received proper care. 🐻🌳
But Gjoni needed more, particularly companionship, and a true lion’s life. 🦁
Preparations for relocating him abroad took time and involved complex logistics and paperwork. However, we never gave up on him and successfully transferred him to FELIDA Big Cat Sanctuary in July—where he now thrives. 🧡
Thank you to everyone who made Gjoni’s forever home possible.

Happy 4th rescueversary to Sandro! 🎉
Known as one of the Argentinean Train Tigers, Sandro, the last remaining tiger, celebrates four years at LIONSROCK.
Born in 2004, Sandro and Mafalda lived in a train carriage for 15 years with their sons, Messi and Gustavo. They were rescued and transferred to LIONSROCK in March 2022.
Sadly, Mafalda and Messi passed away in 2024, followed by Gustavo in 2025. Sandro now carries their legacy forward.
Today, at 22 years old, Sandro enjoys his peaceful life despite some age-related health challenges. He has impaired vision, arthritis in his elbows and has undergone two dental procedures. Having been declawed early in life, he also experiences some misalignment that affects his gait and posture.
Despite these difficulties, Sandro continues to live in the safety and care of LIONSROCK.

A Beautiful Bond Begins. 🐻💛
It was a heartwarming day at BEAR SANCTUARY Domazhyr — Bakhmut and Ruta met for the first time, and it was love at first paw!
Both bears were rescued from heartbreaking conditions:
🌍 Bakhmut was found in war-torn Donetsk, trapped without food or water. Thankfully, he was rescued in September 2022 and now enjoys a peaceful life at the sanctuary.
🏨 Ruta spent years in a concrete cage at a hotel in Lviv region, Ukraine, before her rescue in 2020.
After living alone for a while, both bears showed curiosity toward each other — so our team gently introduced them. Now, they’re inseparable!
💦 Bakhmut loves swimming, while Ruta prefers napping in the shade. Even when they wander apart, Ruta is always the first to find him. They’ve already found harmony — and even share their treats. 🍓
