#TwoBearsOneFuture: A sneak peek into their rescue! 🐻✨🐻
Are you ready for a first glimpse behind the scenes of the rescue of 350 kg Gordo and grape-loving Florencia from the former Zoo Luján in Argentina? 🍇
This rescue truly was an all-hands-on-deck mission. When Gordo was moved to the medical tent in October for his health check, it literally took many helping hands to carry him safely. 🩺
Thanks to a dedicated team and positive reinforcement training, Gordo walked willingly and calmly into his transport crate on rescue day — no anaesthesia and no carrying required.💚 But once he arrived at BEAR SANCTUARY Belitsa, it again took many committed people to carry his heavy crate carefully up the hill to the bear house Gordo now calls home. ⛰️
Florencia, who shared the same destination, followed the same path towards her new life. 💜
And this is just a small insight into their rescue journey...
We are currently working on a longer video telling the full story — of tigress Flora and bears Gordo and Florencia. Three animals who once shared a past marked by neglect, boredom and inadequate care.💔
And who now share a future. Not all in the same place, but in FOUR PAWS sanctuaries, where they finally receive the space, nutrition, medical treatment and dedicated care they so desperately needed! 🌿

Lion Gjoni was found in 2019, trapped in a tiny cage at a restaurant in Kosovo—illegally smuggled and kept in poor conditions. 💔
Though confiscated in 2020, he had to stay in that same cage for two more years due to lack of appropriate facilities. Then in 2022, a fire broke out nearby, adding urgency to his rescue.
We stepped in and moved him to BEAR SANCTUARY Prishtina —a safe but temporary home where he finally received proper care. 🐻🌳
But Gjoni needed more, particularly companionship, and a true lion’s life. 🦁
Preparations for relocating him abroad took time and involved complex logistics and paperwork. However, we never gave up on him and successfully transferred him to FELIDA Big Cat Sanctuary in July—where he now thrives. 🧡
Thank you to everyone who made Gjoni’s forever home possible.

Happy 4th rescueversary to Sandro! 🎉
Known as one of the Argentinean Train Tigers, Sandro, the last remaining tiger, celebrates four years at LIONSROCK.
Born in 2004, Sandro and Mafalda lived in a train carriage for 15 years with their sons, Messi and Gustavo. They were rescued and transferred to LIONSROCK in March 2022.
Sadly, Mafalda and Messi passed away in 2024, followed by Gustavo in 2025. Sandro now carries their legacy forward.
Today, at 22 years old, Sandro enjoys his peaceful life despite some age-related health challenges. He has impaired vision, arthritis in his elbows and has undergone two dental procedures. Having been declawed early in life, he also experiences some misalignment that affects his gait and posture.
Despite these difficulties, Sandro continues to live in the safety and care of LIONSROCK.

A Beautiful Bond Begins. 🐻💛
It was a heartwarming day at BEAR SANCTUARY Domazhyr — Bakhmut and Ruta met for the first time, and it was love at first paw!
Both bears were rescued from heartbreaking conditions:
🌍 Bakhmut was found in war-torn Donetsk, trapped without food or water. Thankfully, he was rescued in September 2022 and now enjoys a peaceful life at the sanctuary.
🏨 Ruta spent years in a concrete cage at a hotel in Lviv region, Ukraine, before her rescue in 2020.
After living alone for a while, both bears showed curiosity toward each other — so our team gently introduced them. Now, they’re inseparable!
💦 Bakhmut loves swimming, while Ruta prefers napping in the shade. Even when they wander apart, Ruta is always the first to find him. They’ve already found harmony — and even share their treats. 🍓

Live lamb cutting is a brutal, outdated practice where lambs as young as two weeks old have skin, bigger than the palm of your hand, cut around their tails and genitals without adequate pain relief. Every year, 10 million lambs suffer excruciating pain due to live lamb cutting. And despite effective alternatives, the fashion industry continues to source wool from this cruelty.
In a new FOUR PAWS report about live lamb cutting (LLC is also known as mulesing), @MichaelKorswas the worst major fashion brand rated in regards to wool transparency, LLC-free certifications, and commitment to animal welfare.
It’s time for Michael Kors to commit to wool free from live lamb cutting.

Many times, we accompany animals only for a part of their journey — often stepping into their lives after hardship has already struck. But every now and then, we get the rare chance to be with an animal from the moment it’s born until it grows up.
Dog Lilu is one of these special cases that grew incredibly close to our hearts. 🇺🇦 She was born on a freezing winter day in Mykolaiv, Ukraine, the only survivor of her litter ❄️. Her mother was not fit enough to care for her. Fortunately, she ended up in the best hands possible: our vet Valentyna cared for her from day one.
And sometimes, life gives you not just one blessing, but two. Lilu was later adopted by one of our volunteers, and as you can see in the video, she’s now enjoying every single day of her life.
