A Beautiful Bond Begins. 🐻💛
It was a heartwarming day at BEAR SANCTUARY Domazhyr — Bakhmut and Ruta met for the first time, and it was love at first paw!
Both bears were rescued from heartbreaking conditions:
🌍 Bakhmut was found in war-torn Donetsk, trapped without food or water. Thankfully, he was rescued in September 2022 and now enjoys a peaceful life at the sanctuary.
🏨 Ruta spent years in a concrete cage at a hotel in Lviv region, Ukraine, before her rescue in 2020.
After living alone for a while, both bears showed curiosity toward each other — so our team gently introduced them. Now, they’re inseparable!
💦 Bakhmut loves swimming, while Ruta prefers napping in the shade. Even when they wander apart, Ruta is always the first to find him. They’ve already found harmony — and even share their treats. 🍓

Live lamb cutting is a brutal, outdated practice where lambs as young as two weeks old have skin, bigger than the palm of your hand, cut around their tails and genitals without adequate pain relief. Every year, 10 million lambs suffer excruciating pain due to live lamb cutting. And despite effective alternatives, the fashion industry continues to source wool from this cruelty.
In a new FOUR PAWS report about live lamb cutting (LLC is also known as mulesing), @MichaelKorswas the worst major fashion brand rated in regards to wool transparency, LLC-free certifications, and commitment to animal welfare.
It’s time for Michael Kors to commit to wool free from live lamb cutting.
Do better, Michael! Protecting lambs is not a luxury.

Many times, we accompany animals only for a part of their journey — often stepping into their lives after hardship has already struck. But every now and then, we get the rare chance to be with an animal from the moment it’s born until it grows up.
Dog Lilu is one of these special cases that grew incredibly close to our hearts. 🇺🇦 She was born on a freezing winter day in Mykolaiv, Ukraine, the only survivor of her litter ❄️. Her mother was not fit enough to care for her. Fortunately, she ended up in the best hands possible: our vet Valentyna cared for her from day one.
And sometimes, life gives you not just one blessing, but two. Lilu was later adopted by one of our volunteers, and as you can see in the video, she’s now enjoying every single day of her life.

Last April, two tiny bear cubs were found all alone in the Ukrainian wilderness — orphaned, scared, and fighting for survival. 🐻💔
For two days, a local hunting station kept watch, hoping their mother would return.
She never did.
At only a few weeks old — and weighing just 5 and 7 kg — little Runa and Kodi had no chance of surviving on their own. Exhausted and starving, they were rushed to safety in an emergency rescue mission and brought to our BEAR SANCTUARY Domazhyr. 🌿
In an ideal world, these cubs would have been rehabilitated and returned to the wild.
But Ukraine currently has no facilities equipped for brown bear rehab or rewilding — so we stepped in to give them the best life possible.
Today, Runa and Kodi are thriving. 💖
They’re growing strong, playful, and confident thanks to the tireless care of their dedicated caretakers.

“A lion on a leash” is a sentence that should not exist. 💔
A lion cub is being walked on a leash on the street. Two bear cubs are being “cuddled” by their private owners. In just a few weeks, we have received reports from Albania showing videos of wild animals being treated as pets and exploited on social media.
And whilst many users may only see harmless young animals, we see a systemic issue that requires URGENT attention. 🚨 These are not isolated cases: used as trophies and status symbols; private owners showcase wild animals on their channels, posing significant risks to the safety of both animals and people.
Wild animals are not pets. ❌
A lion or a bear cannot be domesticated, as they are not adapted to human contact. Even animals snatched from their mother at a young and hand-raised eventually become too big and too dangerous to keep, often ending up being sold or living in unsuitable conditions. This leads to long-lasting health issues.
We have seen over the years many cases demonstrating the devastating consequences private keeping of wild animals can have. Normalising such interactions with big cats or bears fuels commercial breeding, poaching and illegal wildlife trade. Large predators end up living in backyards, and even for the few lucky ones that are rescued, their early start in life under human exploitation often leads to abnormal behaviours as they try to cope with fear and trauma.
Help us raise awareness and restore respect for wild species by keeping them where they belong: in the wild.

For 16 long years, Tyson the bear lived a nightmare. Snatched from his mother as a cub, he spent his life in a dilapidated cage at a remote hunting station in western Ukraine — abused for bear-baiting, a cruel “training” ritual where hunting dogs are set upon a chained bear. 💔
Then one day in 2017, everything changed.
FOUR PAWS rescued Tyson from his torture and brought him to BEAR SANCTUARY Domazhyr, where his healing began. There, surrounded by nature and care, Tyson finally started to trust again.
He’s now confident, gentle, and curious — a bear rediscovering the joy of simply being a bear. 🌿
Tyson loves exploring his pond, playing with enrichment, and spending his days beside his lifelong friend Mashutka. These two inseparable bears swim together in summer, nap side by side, and share dens through the winter. 💞💦
From being exploited to being liberated, from an object of entertainment to a beloved individual — this is what #FromForgottenToFamily is all about. A reminder that every animal deserves to be seen, respected, and loved. 💚
