In anticipation of episode 2 of Galt's Gear, let's play GUESS THE INSTRUMENT! I give you two clues. Comment if you know what it is. Or feel free to make up a name. :)

I'm really excited to share this strange instrument with you. It's actually fast becoming one of my favorites in my weird instrument collection. The essence of quirky, odd, eerie--and surprisingly expressive!

The music is a little preview of an upcoming piece which uses this instrument, and morphed into a piano rendition.

Its most recent predecessor is probably the Persian Barbat (which concurrently exists today) and the modern oud has fractured into two main regional types: Arabic and Turkish. A storied and historically important instrument, you can plainly see the ouds influence on lutes and its web of relations to stringed instruments that have reached every corner of the earth.$
