The Gibson Flying V remains one of the most iconic and adventurous designs in electric guitar history. First introduced in 1958, its radical, futuristic shape was ahead of its time and became a huge staple of rock music, with Jimi Hendrix and Albert King making it iconic. By the 70s and 80s, Michael Schenker and Kirk Hammett made it synonymous with heavy music through their work with UFO and Metallica, respectively, and it remains one of the best guitars for heavy metal to this day. These days, you will find the Flying V across nearly every genre, from modern blues and indie to progressive metal.
The standout feature of this build is the new Epiphone ProBucker™ Ignite pickups, based on a Patent-Applied-For design with Alnico 5 magnets. They deliver tight low end, creamy midrange, and controlled highs, with plenty of note clarity and definition, and a strong punch for both lead and rhythm playing. Dinesh also highlights the Solaris Shift finish on this model, shifting from yellow to pink and red depending on the angle.
The Futura Flying V Custom’s angular mahogany body features elegant top binding, paired with a glued-in mahogany neck with a sleek Modern C profile, a bound ebony fingerboard, and 22 stainless steel medium jumbo frets for effortless playability. Two push/pull volume controls enable coil splitting, while a push/pull tone control adds phase switching for even greater sonic flexibility.
