It is a long one! The third form of Wing Chun is said to be "for only inside the door" meaning it has secrets that are not for public. Since we teach public classes, and since GM Yip Man started teaching public classes in Hong Kong in the 1950's, we must assume the material given to beginners does not have these Closed Door secrets.
I present a concept that the first 3 forms represent 3 stages of growth. A student might learn all 6 Wing Chun forms one after the other in a single year, but only practice will increase their skill. Chum Kiu represents an awesome skill level, and the Third form and Wooden Dummy can be performed with this Chum Kiu level of skill. SO just because we have all the forms, does not mean we have learned the Closed Door secrets.
In order to protect the promise to keep the secrets, but still provide students with enough of the needed techniques, Dr. Leung Ting bought several mechanics down into the Chum Kiu form, Even some of the methods from the Chi Sau sections 5, 6, and 7 have Third form and Wooden Dummy related applications. But there is still more to master in WT Biu Tze and beyond.
