Today Bartitsu is known as walking cane fighting from Gentlemen of Victorian London and for most of by Sherlock Holmes. But neither Bartitsu was only walking stick self defense nor was every cane fighting method Bartitsu. There were other martial arts in Europe using the cane as a weapon as la canne in France, bastone da passagio in Italy, Spazierstockfechten in Germany and even in England were other methods known as only canne Vigny from the Bartitsu club, not even speaking of the Irish shillelagh.
