What is IVF, exactly?
IVF is the process by which eggs are removed from the ovaries, taken into the laboratory, fertilized with sperm in order to create embryos which are then returned to the uterus in order to establish a pregnancy.
Dr. Eric Flisser, a board certified REI and founder of RMA of New York, walks through what to expect when undergoing the process of IVF, how long it takes, and a range of options for patients.
He highlights a common process for patients freezing embryos: PGT, preimplantation genetic testing: “The best tool we’ve ever had in the process of doing invitro fertilization.” PGT tests to see if embryos are “normal” or “abnormal” to see if we can avoid some of the abnormal ones.
