This video asks what sounds like a very basic question on the surface, but it’s something that the more I’ve been thinking about, the harder it’s becoming to properly define or understand.
In short, it’s simply this:
What is craft to you? And does craft necessarily require skill?
There’s a lot more context in the narration of the video itself but I should say, given all of my scattered thoughts, that craft to me feels as if it should be something along the following lines. It’s the intentional application of human judgement to a practice, developed through experience, whether or not it produces a physical object.
Of course, as I’ve already posed this question to my YouTube audience, the response is really varied and that’s fascinating, so I’m interested to see what you folks have to say.
