In Melbourne, emergency services and artists joined forces to reimagine disaster preparedness.
At the 2025 Global Platform for DRR, we spoke to Jen Rae – founder and creative lead at the Centre for Reworlding – about how creative practice opens space for imagining safer futures.

🎨 The Refuge project staged climate-disaster rehearsals with residents and first responders across eight years.
🌀 These drills were more than exercises – they were co-designed experiences that surfaced new ways of understanding risk.
🏙️ The City of Melbourne embedded these approaches in their emergency plans, showing what it means to incorporate creativity at the heart of resilience.
