I admit it: I was wrong about ethanol.
Four years ago, I predicted biofuels had a short runway because electric vehicles were supposedly the future. But something big changed—and it’s not just E15 or 45Z.
It’s AI.
Data centers are consuming enormous amounts of electricity, Big Tech has billions riding on their expansion, and suddenly those kilowatts have a much more profitable place to go than charging millions of EVs. Follow the money and the picture gets pretty clear: America is going to need every form of energy it can get—including ethanol, natural gas, coal, and nuclear.
That could give biofuels a much longer runway than I ever expected.
