When i arrived to Reykjavik last week with my camera rolling on the car i decided to use the chance to do a city time-lapse and i might upload the real time speed version if i get such requests from viewers. The time-lapse format is however a story on it's own and i often take a deep breath when i enter the city because the traffic is getting worse every year. The reason is simple, the development of traffic infrastructure such as overpasses has not kept pace with the increasing number of cars.
Icelanders are not willing to give up the private car, we love to have it for the simple reason that we live in a cold country and it's priceless to have the freedom to go out of town into our fantastic nature with ease.
It is also a fact that public transport has always been very poorly organised and families are not prepared to drive back and forth along poorly organised routes for many hours every day unless a the busses would offer kitchen facilities, sofa, and a big screen TV, so we could at least feel like home during the long and complicates city routes.
This trip starts in Reykjavik East by the city entrance from Higway 1 over Hellisheiði and i made a short stopover in Laugavegur shopping street to pick up my old F-mount zoom lens from repair so i could list it for sale. the trip ends where we exit Hafnarfjörður on our way to the Reykjanes peninsula so it's a full tour trough 4 municipalities, but Icelanders are perhaps too independent in their thinking because Reykjavík is only part of the capital area and it is unlikely that these municipalities will unite, but they are 6 in total.
