Clued up on Glues
It is soooo important to use the right product to allow you to produce the results you want and should expect. For instance, papers can totally affect the results achieved; pigment intensity, mark-making, glazing potential and absorbency will all influence the papers used.
It is equally important to know and understand the glues that you use, as each product will have specific properties and attributes.
Confusing, I know, but here I have tried to research and clarify the properties and potential of glues that suit my work processes. I hope it is of some use to you as well.

Polyvinylacetate (PVAC, PVA)
Properties and Applications
Polyvinyl acetate (PVAc, PVA) is an atactic, highly branched, noncrystalline thermoplastic prepared by free-radical polymerization. It has good resistance to UV and oxidation. PVAc emulsions are produced on a very large scale. They are inexpensive and possess good adhesion to many porous substrates but are ineffective on non-porous surfaces. They are one of the main ingredients of water-based glues, commonly referred to as wood glue, carpenter's glue, Elmer's glue (USA), or white glue.
Polyvinyl acetate is another term for wood glue, white glue, carpenter’s glue, and school glue. They combine to form a rubbery synthetic polymer with adhesive properties, perfect for woodworking, bookbinding, handicrafts, and wallpapering. They’re also useful for sizing a porous medium such as canvas or wood: just cover the surface in a layer of polyvinyl acetate to seal the surface against paint absorption—an essential practice, especially for oil painting.

PVA Washable Craft Glue
This glue remains soluble even once dry so that it will wash out of clothes. This property is a consideration if you are using it in a situation where things may be affected by humidity over a period of time. It is not pH neutral unless it is specified in the product description. ( I have researched this, and some of the PVA glues will be pH neutral without mentioning it in the product description, it is worth asking the manufacturer of the product you are interested in.)

Lineco Neutral pH Adhesive
This product boasts its pH-neutral properties; it is a glue that I use as it has good immediate adhesive qualities and the reputation and ability to dry with lay-flat results, which is very important for bookbinding and in most collage projects.
The acid-free solution won’t yellow. It dries quickly and permanently and is crystal clear.

Cellulose Adhesive
Mix with water to form a paste. Ideal for papier mache, paper lamination, sizing in marbling, general art and craft use etc. VOC, Oil and solvent-free, acid-free, non-toxic.

Belgian Rice Starch
Rice Starch is similar to wheat starch but yields a lighter, thinner starch adhesive paste after cooking.
Considered to create a weaker adhesive than wheat starch. pH neutral.

Wheat Starch
A very carefully purified uncooked food-grade wheat starch.
When cooked, it makes a superior smooth wheat paste adhesive.

Jin Shofu Wheat Paste
Jin Shofu Japanese wheat paste is a high-quality, smooth, strong paste for mounting paper and boards.
