Louise Jannetta | Find marks unique to the process by applying colours to various papers. @LouiseJannetta | Uploaded May 2022 | Updated October 2024, 1 hour ago.
Communicating with colours, selecting, mixing, storing and applying colours to a variety of papers.
In this video, Louise looks at colours and colourways that may appeal. How to find these colour routes and then to store and use the mixed colours. The colours are then applied to a variety of papers in a process that allows the colours, paints and papers to create their own beautiful language.
There is a reference to another video by Louise that looks at making useful colour swatches to refer to possible colour combinations. The video is How to Create and Make Use Of Really Helpful Colour Swatches, and the link to the video is:- youtu.be/fr0DlhChLFc
There has been a great deal written about colour. Colour imparts emotion and symbolism. It can create an atmosphere and evoke memories and experiences. Therefore considering colour in your work can add attributes. Colour, mark and substrate can be utilised to reference and so evoke nature, urban environment, safety or danger, it is up to you to attempt to manipulate its power.
A lovely book that provides a concise and comprehensive guide to the messages contained in colour is Pantone Guide to Communicating with Colour By Leatrice Eiseman:- amzn.to/3FmVEfC
Louise uses acrylics mixed with acrylic bonding mediums and water. Acrylic bonding mediums are different from PVA bonding medium the chemical makeup is different and should not be confused. She uses the acrylics in the diluted form to allow the medium to flow and seep through the papers, especially utilising the properties of the tissue papers and kitchen papers. But then Louise always demonstrates an empathetic response to the mediums.
Louise would recommend the acrylic gloss and matt mediums to use to dilute the acrylic paints. The composition of these products is acrylic rather than vinyl and although it is a more expensive product it is specifically designed for use with good quality art projects.
