History With Hilbert | What Did Canada Do in the American Civil War? @historywithhilbert | Uploaded September 2024 | Updated October 2024, 18 hours ago.
During the American Civil War, people of different nations flocked to both sides to see action before war's end. Canada played an important role in the American Civil War, anywhere from 33,000-55,000 Canadians fought for the Union, with several hundreds fighting for the Confederacy. Still ruled by the British, Canada had several fears of Northern Invasion during the war, their militia often being called up for suspected attack. Others in Canada were pro-Confederacy, helping to run Union blockades to supply weapons and money to the South.
