Back-to-school costs can add up fast.

Connecticut’s Department of Children and Families held a back-to-school rally where kids picked out backpacks, school supplies and toys — giving families some extra support before the first bell rings.

For one parent, the event also meant a chance to give back after receiving support from DCF herself.
