One thing I’ve been sitting with recently is confession.

Not confession as performing shame.

Confession as telling the truth.

Living Fearless by Jamie Winship has challenged how I think about prayer and honesty with God.

Scripture says over and over:

“Do not be afraid.”

But if I’m being honest…

Sometimes I am.

Afraid of failing.
Afraid of disappointing people.
Afraid things won’t work out.
Afraid of what I can’t control.

And pretending I’m not afraid doesn’t make me more faithful.

It makes me less honest.

Maybe confession is meant to sound like:

“God, I know I’m not supposed to live in fear, but I feel afraid right now.”

Less polished, more real.

Fear grows in secrecy.

Truth brings things into the light.

So maybe confession is less about proving I’m strong and more about creating a real relationship with God.

Not performing, just talking.
