How can we avoid the discomfort of boredom when we have nothing to occupy the mind? And is there something more to this sense of dis-ease that arises when we don’t have anything to do?
Rupert says: ‘When there’s nothing to do, your mind projects a blank state onto that absence of objective experience – calling it boredom – rather than recognising it as simply being. But what’s wrong with just being? There’s no discomfort, dis-ease or longing there. Your mind sees this absence of objective experience as something lacking or missing. But in truth, nothing is missing.
The only resolution for that is the recognition of your true nature. Everything else just puts it off. If you engage in some activity, you’re just pushing the boredom down the line. So, sit with boredom. Don’t indulge in it, but feel it. Keep looking at it until you feel what’s really there – the peace of your true nature.
