A little info on WH40K: ROGUE TRADER…
Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader is a narrative-rich CRPG set in the grimdark 41st millennium of the Warhammer 40,000 universe. The player is unexpectedly thrust into the role of heir to House Von Valancius, heir to the Rogue Trader title, after the murder of Lady Theodora and the betrayal that absorbs the flagship. With rivals eliminated through force or ritual, the player must navigate intrigue, war, and chaos in the Koronus Expanse. Along the way they assemble companions from psykers to Aeldari rangers and Space Marines, uncover cults and conspiracies like the Final Dawn, and make decisions that shape both their own path and the fate of their dynasty.
Gameplay emphasises choice, tactics, and scope. It’s an isometric, party-based RPG with turn-based combat, grounded in a modified d100 tabletop system. The player manages a party of six, developing skills (or “doctrines”), customizing characters, exploring planets and voidspace, and making moral and political choices via an alignment system that spans Dogmatic, Iconoclastic, and Heretical paths. Beyond ground combat, there’s also realm-building, establishing a trade empire, acquiring voidships, and influencing sectors. Optional cooperative play is supported. Side content, exploration of lost worlds, relationships with your crew, and strategic positioning in combat all feature heavily.
The game was developed and published by Owlcat Games, released on 7 December 2023 for Windows PC, macOS, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. A Nintendo Switch 2 version has also been announced.
In terms of reception, Rogue Trader has generally been received positively. On Metacritic it has “generally favourable” reviews, with praise given for its writing, scope, character building, and faithful Warhammer atmosphere. Some criticisms relate to technical issues (bugs, performance, long loading times), less polished visuals or animations, and a difficulty curve that some find steep or uneven.
