Gemeinschaft ist fragil. Und die gegenwärtige Pandemie intensiviert schwelende Konflikte, verschärft soziale Ungerechtigkeit. Wie miteinander leben? Das fragen sich auch jene acht Personen, deren Bedürfnisse und Ängste in der Gemeinschaftsküche einer Einrichtung für temporäres Wohnen aufeinanderprallen. Eine vierköpfige Familie, die hofft, noch vor Weihnachten ein eigenes Zuhause zu finden. Oder Mutter und Sohn, die sich scheinbar mit den kargen Lebensumständen arrangiert haben. Sie alle wohnen beengt. Der sterile Raum verwehrt ihnen jede Behaglichkeit, individuelle Zukunftssorgen erschweren die gegenseitige Unterstützung.
LOVE, Teil der Trilogie The Inequalities, katapultierte den Regisseur Alexander Zeldin ins Zentrum der internationalen Aufmerksamkeit. Einem zeitgenössischen Realismus verpflichtet, bringt sein Theater komplexe Zwischentöne im tatsächlichen Leben und prekären Zusammenleben behutsam zu Gehör. In LOVE trotzt eine fragile Gemeinschaft verschiedenen widrigen Umständen. Sie ist stabiler als gedacht.
A community is a fragile thing. And the current pandemic is intensifying simmering conflicts and exacerbating social injustice. How are we to live together? That’s one of the questions that the eight people ask themselves as their individual needs and fears collide in the community kitchen of a temporary housing shelter. Take the family of four that hopes to be able to find a home of their own before Christmas. Or the mother and son who appear to have come to terms with the difficult circumstances of their lives. They are all forced to live in cramped conditions. The sterile premises do not allow any creature comforts, and personal worries about the future make any form of mutual support all the more difficult. LOVE, a piece that is part of Alexander Zeldin’s trilogy entitled The Inequalities, propelled him into the limelight of international attention. With its commitment to contemporary realism, his theatre sensitively addresses the complex nuances in the reality of people’s lives and the precarious way in which they cohabit. In LOVE, a fragile community defies various adverse circumstances – and proves more stable than expected.
