Ein Autowrack. Aus seinem Radio erklingen romantische Träume von Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy. Zwischen 1829 und 1845 komponiert, umfasst die Sammlung Lieder ohne Worte insgesamt 48 lyrische Klavierstücke. In der Gegenüberstellung mit einer noch rauchenden Blech-Katastrophe werden die von einem elektrischen Kammermusik-Trio instrumentierten und erweiterten Melodien zum Ausgangspunkt für die neue Musiktheater-Entwicklung des Schweizer Regisseurs und Bühnenbildners Thom Luz. Atmosphärisch dicht, zoomt Lieder ohne Worte ins Vakuum des Schocks hinein. Gemeinsam mit den drei Musiker*innen versuchen zwei Überlebende den Unfall zu rekonstruieren: Wie haben wir uns gegen die Wand gefahren? Existieren wir noch? Und was nun? Wo die Worte nicht hinreichen, formieren sich auch die Töne neu.
Im Zusammenspiel von katastrophischen Vorgängen und behaglichen Atmosphären entstehen Bilder einer dem Verlauf der Zeit entrückten Endstimmung oder eines Neuanfangs. Ein filigranes, minutiös durchdachtes Gesamtkunstwerk.
A car wreck. Romantic melodies by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy are playing on its radio. Composed between 1829 and 1845, the collection Songs Without Words consists of a total of 48 lyrical piano pieces. The contrast between the catastrophic smouldering car wreck and the dream melodies orchestrated and expanded upon by an electric chamber music trio is the starting point for the new music theatre production by Swiss director and set designer Thom Luz.
In a dense atmosphere, Lieder ohne Worte zooms straight into the vacuum of sheer shock. Together with the three musicians, two survivors attempt to reconstruct the accident. How did we manage to hit the wall? Do we still exist? And what now? Where words fail, tones assemble in a new way. In the interplay between catastrophic processes and cosy atmospheres, apocalyptic images or perhaps images of a new beginning emerge, detached from the course of time. A filigree and meticulously detailed Gesamtkunstwerk.
