Here's an incredible recent find - the opening of a broadcast of the 1935 version of "The Raven" with Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi as shown on the Monstrous Movie over WFLD Channel 32.

(The year of release is mentioned in the title of this clip, as the Monstrous Movie had previously shown the 1963 version with Karloff, Vincent Price and Peter Lorre on September 23rd 1978.)

Includes:

Movie at Noon ending titles, showing Kaiser-era 32 logo (with voiceover promo for coming Monstrous Movie and Movie for a Saturday Afternoon presentation of the Abbott & Costello "Rio Rita" by Jim Barton)

Animated Field Communications ID (voiceover by Darwin Gillette)

Station ID / promo for PM Magazine (voiceover by Jo Ann Williams)

Monstrous Movie open featuring the Kaiser Broadcasting-era 32 logo (thankfully in this clip, the original voiceover from the pre-Barton days - that's pre-April 1980 - is mostly intact before Jim Barton starts with his own voiceover. The original voiceover, "It's time for the Monstrous Movie..." was done by late-70s staff announcer Ron Beattie, but his ending laugh is mostly covered up by Barton's voiceover. At least the other maniacal laugh can still be heard - from that infamous "Bag O' Laughs" novelty item that was sold in the 70s)

Opening titles and first moments of film

This aired on local Chicago TV on Saturday, January 24th 1981 between 1:29pm and 1:31pm.

About The Museum of Classic Chicago Television:

The MCCTv (FuzzyMemoriesTV) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit whose primary mission is the preservation and display of off-air, early home videotape recordings (70s to early 80s, mostly) recorded off of TV (in Chicago or other cities now too); things which would likely be lost if not sought out and preserved digitally. If you have any old 1970s videotapes recorded off of TV please email: tapes@fuzzy.tv Even though (mostly) short clips are displayed here, we preserve the entire broadcasts in our archives - the complete programs with breaks (or however much is present on the tape), for historical preservation. For information on how to help in our mission, to donate or lend tapes to be converted to digital, please e-mail tapes@fuzzy.tv Thank you for your help!
