River Harvest - Sonora
There are places you stop because you're hungry. And then there are places you stop because something pulls you in off the highway and doesn't let go. River Harvest in Sonora is the second kind.
We're in Sutton County, out where West Texas starts to mean it, and we found a little restaurant that has no business being this good. River Harvest is tucked away at 801 Tayloe Ave, serving breakfast and lunch Monday through Friday, and if you blink driving through Sonora, you'll miss one of the best meals between San Antonio and El Paso.
Kara and Sergio built this place on a simple idea: cook everything from scratch, treat people right, and don't cut corners. The pies alone are worth the detour. One reviewer said they ate the chicken pot pie even though they don't even like chicken pot pie. Then they finished the whole thing. That about sums it up. And the BBQ? The brisket mac and cheese, the pulled pork sandwich on homemade bread that's crispy on the outside and soft in the middle, the kind of food that makes you wish you lived closer.
I'll be honest, when you're rolling through this stretch of I-10, it's easy to think there's nothing out here. Turns out, you just weren't looking hard enough. I'll see you on the road.
