We visited a wonder of the world using miles and points…here's how we pulled that off. First, we flew from New York to Cusco via Bogota using 19,000 Avianca LifeMiles each for round trip flights, saving us $740 per person. After more than 20 hours of travel, we arrived at Tambo Del Inka, a Marriott Luxury Collection property that we booked using 5 Marriott Free Night Awards, saving us another $3,500. Tambo del Inka even has a private train station, so we boarded the Vistadome with Peru Rail— glass ceilings, mountain views, and were treated to two hours of unreal scenery. That brought us to Aguas Calientes, also known as the town of Machu Picchu, where we boarded another short bus ride up endless switchbacks, finally dropping us at the entrance of Machu Picchu — one of the most breathtaking places we’ve ever seen. In total we paid $106 per person in fees for our round trip flights, $174 in fees for our five night stay at the hotel or $87 each and our full day tour with a private guide which included a meal and all of our tickets for Machu Picchu came to $550 each bringing our total cash price to just $743 per person…not bad for such a unique and incredible trip.
