You’ve just arrived at a beachfront resort for that much-needed vacation, but the question is, do you toss your wallet aside and never think about a bill…or pay as you go for every meal, drink, and activity? In other words…do you want an all-inclusive or a standard resort? An all-inclusive bundles your room, meals, drinks, and even some activities into one upfront price. Once you check in, you can order piña coladas, room service, or hit the buffet without thinking of a price tag. It’s convenient, budgeting is easier, and you get unlimited dining and drinks…but it’s gonna cost you in the form of a higher nightly rate. Plus, quality varies from gourmet restaurants to buffets that feel like a school cafeteria. A standard resort on the other hand is just the room and maybe breakfast. Otherwise, you're on your own. The good news is you only pay for what you use and you can generally expect higher quality food at these resort restaurants. But this also means fewer included activities, more planning, and costs add up fast — every coffee, beer, and beach snack hits your final bill. If you're redeeming points, a Hyatt category B all-inclusive costs the same number of points as a Hyatt category 5 standard resort, but with the category 5, you'd still have to pay for all those extras. There’s no one-size-fits-all answer, but if you want stress-free indulgence, go all-inclusive. If you want flexibility and don’t need unlimited drinks and food, go standard resort.
